Salchi – Arkema: a winning partnership since 1963

Established in 1963, Glidden-Salchi was one of the first licensees of the Kynar 500® brand licensing program.  This program ensures high quality for the end users of coatings formulated with Kynar 500® PVDF resin.  In 1976-77, a family of Swiss industrialists acquired Glidden-Salchi and turned it into Salchi Spa, the license formally passed to the new legal entity.  Since then, Salchi and Arkema have been partners in the formulation of surface materials of their coating products, with positive effects along the entire value chain up to architects, who can be 100% sure of the durability of their creations’ look for decades.

Over the past fifty years, Arkema has conducted several studies on the aging of coatings, testing different combinations of pigments and additives in formulations made with Kynar 500® PVDF resin.  As a licensee, Salchi is required to follow the guidelines provided by these studies and it is therefore able to offer solid guarantees to all its customers.  What further assures the licensees, architects, and builing owners using coatings made with Kynar 500® PVDF resin about the aging behavior of these coatings is that some samples have been on exposure in southern Florida for over the last fifty years with minimal color fade and film erosion.

The Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow, Russia

The Luzhniki Statium was built in 1956 and is located in Moscow, Russia.  It boasts 80,000 seats and was selected to host the opening and final matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In preparartion for the World Cup, the stadium underwent a complete renovation which required an investment of over EUR 350 million.  It included the creation of an upper band in pre-painted aluminum, for which Kynar 500® PVDF resin-based coatings from Salchi Metalcoat were used to ensure that the exterior appearance of the building will remain intact for decades. The Olympic Gold colored pre-painted aluminum used for the Luzhniki Stadium was coated by Impol Seval, a company based in Sevojno, Serbia, which is a division of IMPOL group with the head office in Slovenska Bistrica, Slovenia.
